People ask for a traction slide and I don’t have one I believe. So this is the other thing. What exists. What I will not say. If you are a firm and not an investor, this is the more useful of the two.
Ledgera is a desk for an Indian CA practice. Not a dashboard that congratulates you about last month. The question it is trying to answer, on a Tuesday, is small: what needs someone today, and what can you stop carrying in your head.
On the machine
Iris (local AI)
The desktop app is the workbench. You can drop the Excel you already keep and the day comes up from it. Iris sits on that computer — chat, a notice, a document — and the client’s papers are not sent off to become someone else’s training set. When the local model isn’t there, the deterministic path still answers what it can. I would rather a plain answer than a fluent one that required uploading the drawer.
Deadline register
The list I wanted on the Friday before the 31st. One row. An owner. A number when it’s filed. It does not file the statement. Anyone who tells you the software filed it is selling you a feeling.
Document requests
A request has a state, because “sent” was doing too much work. Open, sent, not usable, in. The next person should not have to borrow a phone to see whether what came back is actually a file.
The vault
The vault is where the file lives after it is actually a file. Notices are their own thing: a client, an owner, a reply date, the PDF stored once. Not a scan at the bottom of a folder called Notices, which is a graveyard with good intentions.
Fees know a balance. The team can see the same row without asking the person who “knows.” A client can be handed a link to put a document in, and that link can be taken back. There is a calculation side for the numbers that should not be done from memory at 9pm.
The product is the list that is still there when the person who remembers has gone home.
What I will not claim
I will not give you a count of firms. I will not say the practice is 73 percent healthy. I will not say an AI read your client’s notice in the cloud and you should feel modern about it. The web viewer — the thing in the browser — is invite-only. For a while the website said that and the door didn’t mean it. That embarrassed me, and the door is shut now unless the email is permitted. If you already have an account, you can still come in. I am not locking the people who are already at the desk.
We are in Chennai. The work is early. If you want a seat, the list is a real list, not a mood on a landing page. If you want the Saturday to be a list instead of a person, that is the part I care about, and it is the part that is already there.
